Alford Angling Association
Alford Angling Association was formed in November 2018 and offers Salmon, Sea Trout and Brown Trout fishing on the Waterside and Haughton beats of the River Don. These beats were previously managed by Aberdeenshire Council.
Your permit covers both beats, each just over a mile long. Waterside is left bank fishing, Haughton is right bank fishing and there is a great variety of streams and glides to explore, with ten named pools.
Probably best described as Mid to Upper River Don, flowing through the heart of Donside, Alford offers affordable fishing for both local and visiting anglers, with good access and parking.
Brown Trout fishing starts on April 1st through to September 30th. River Don Trout tend to average around a pound, but larger fish can be caught throughout the river and the waters of Alford are no exception, with a specimen or two of 5lbs+ making an appearance most seasons.
Sunday fishing is allowed for Brown Trout only.
Salmon fishing starts on February 11th through to October 31st. Early Springers up to 15 pounds have been tempted in recent seasons, with numbers increasing in April and May. Grilse run from late May through to August if we have a bit of water, followed by the larger Autumn Salmon.
Sea Trout can offer great sport as the evenings lengthen around June through to the end of the season.
