Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

Hamish Young

So this made me really quite happy, in this thread https://www.fishingthefly.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=9872.msg76801#msg76801 I posted this:
Three of those dapping fly sets went to B&W customers via the Rod & Gun shop in Fort William to match a dapping rod that B&W had produced. This thread has reminded me to look that rod up, I've never seen one. I wonder if any of those boxed fly sets are still in circulation :? I don't even have a photo of one, rather wish I had kept one for myself now :!
On an unrelated search, I was recommended to these guys by Magnus https://www.classicvintagefishingtackle.com/ and whilst browsing their website and stock I came across the proverbial holy grail of dapping rods https://www.classicvintagefishingtackle.com/fibreglasscarbonrods.htm Look at the rod at the top of the list :!

I had never seen one before and, whilst my pockets are nowhere deep enough to consider this as a 'must have' purchase, it has to be one of the most rare rods to have come from the B&W stable - ever. I was excited to see it, kind of completes a 30 year old 'wish'. Now to find one of my boxed dapping fly sets  :z16

I would like that rod! Not to fish with, just for my collection of long fly rods. Bit pricey though :X2

I have a similar rod - it's a 'Walkers Wonderful Wand' 14'10" built for Richard Walker by Dons of Edmonton.
This was his own rod - provenance letter by his late wife. He explored the possibilities of using long trout rods. In fact this rod was sold to me as a dapping rod, however it is specified for lines # 4 - 6 ?

£425 is too pricy for me when I have a couple of 15' prototype 'wafters' for sale for less. Much lighter and longer!
