Out for a cast with Steven, blowing away the cobwebs 

Great company and banter, working our way through a few boxes of feathers and fluff, the Soldier Palmer was a clear winner on the day

I am glad the weather forecast was wrong....turned into a great day.

Soldier Palmer.... , I am sure I read an article somewhere at sometime that this fly was named 'Soldier' after the red colour of English redcoats at the time.   

The Palmer part is much older and was derived from the Palmer worm or hairy caterpillar......which in turn got its name from pilgrims 'palmers' meandering along paths in the Holyland......resembling a caterpillar.   The 'Palmer' part coming from the fact they sheltered themselves from the sun using Palm leaves......

Anyway, it catches fish and has done for a fair few years..... .....
