Hardy Bros Alnwick 10492 Fly Rod
« on: 30/10/2022 at 22:12 »
Something else lurking in the back of the cupboard - Hardy  Bros Makers Alnwick 10492 greenheart fly rod.

About 15ft long, the first two sections are greenheart, the tip section is split cane.

I was going to hang this one in the fishing hut, but never got round to it.

I think Hardy fly rod serial numbers had a prefix letter from 1900 onwards?

Is it a fly rod Mike?

Think so Terry, small rings give me that impression  :z16

It has their patented Lockfast joints, which are quite interesting.

The tip section doesn't though, so is probably somebody's attempt at a repair job.

If a local forum member ( that can collect it ) has a man cave that they'd like to hang this up in - give me a shout  :z16

It has gathered dust for years, and I don't want anything for it.

Mike - I have an interest in long fly rods for display purposes. Can I tempt you to post it to me for a fee that covers your time and p/p?

I'm really sorry Terry, the sections are 5ft long and simply too much hassle to post  *smiley-unhappy*

ANY FORUM VOLUNTEERS

Those of you that go to the BFFI  -  maybe one of you might have space in the car to take this down to Terry at the show  :?

Mike,

If you have a skagit of a suitable weight lying around it would be very interesting to see how the old hardy would get on with it.

I've an inkling that an old deep bending slow rod would be an ideal match. Granted I don't think id wish to fish a full week with it 😅

Cheers,

Steven

Hi Steven

The butt section on this one is probably best described as 'pretty robust', can't imagine it would be deep bending, if at all bending.

I used to have a greenheart trout rod of about 11-12ft, I remember fishing it at Haddo once and getting a couple of decent rainbows on it, which produced much hilarity at the time  *smiley-grin*

Cheers
Mike
