Down Lochter way there is a saying that June is “the month of leaves and roses, when pleasant sights salute the eyes and pleasant scents the noses,”.
We certainly had plenty customers who showed an admirable ‘nose’ for catching fish last week.
A lot of anglers were fishing on the surface or within a foot down, depending on the brightness.
Graham Gauld used either buzzers or dry flies and he had 19 fish for his last session. Sandy Scobie also used buzzers but this time in combination with bloodworms and he had 18 fish to the net.
Bill Williamson focused on using single small black klinkhammers and he had 16 fish off the top of the water.
Ronnie Ewen and Sandy Brown from Macduff used diawl bachs and spiders during their session and they had 16 and 11 fish respectively. Graeme Duthie stuck mostly to buzzers when there was a nice ripple on the water and it served him well as he had 14 fish.
Other returns were Dave Cooper on 13 fish using buzzers, CDC’s and diawl bachs, Robert Wishart on CDC’s with 13 fish, Thomas Wishart on 12 fish with black emergers, Colin Henderson on 10 fish using suspender buzzers and fabs and Simon Ruddiman on 10 fish using buzzers.
Craig Angus had 9 fish on fabs or buzzers, Gary Findley also 9 on diawl bachs, Sandy Carrol (the Frigate Bar No. 1 fisher) had 8 on buzzers and CDC’s and Brian Ross had an evening session where he had 8 fish on his favourite dry flies.
So things are ticking away nicely for the time of year.
