Lochter Report- Home Sweet Home at Lochter

Down Lochter way last week it was most heartening to see that a new pair of Ospreys seem to have decided to make Lochter their new residence for the season and they are now busy refurbishing the previously abandoned nest.

Location they say is key and with a plentiful supply of free food on hand, it was an easy decision to make.
Perhaps this was also made easier for them last week as there was an abundance of fish seen breaking the surface to tempt both Ospreys and fisherman.

Indeed on the fishing front there was some really good fishing to be had with plenty positive feedback on the fighting qualities of our own Lochter trout.
There were plenty anglers who had over 20 fish for their session and they included Albert Cowie who stuck to buzzers, Ronnie Ewen who used an assortment of diawl bachs, Mike Skene who kept faith with his dry flies, R. Berry on the WSW lure, Jim Addie on dry flies, Paul Keir  on the smoker and fab on a hover line. Graham Hartley on buzzers, Jim Brown on drys, Graeme McPherson on buzzers and Craig Whyte on spiders.
Special mention to Jim Skilling and Ken Walkinshaw up on holiday from “doon sooth” who has 3 sessions during the week and each time they both had over 20 fish mostly on squirmy’s and buzzers.
They were most impressed by the standard of fishing in this area and will no doubt be back later in the year to sample some more.
Other returns were Davy Simpson who mixed it up using a cutthroat zonker, black hopper, cormorants and blobs for 15 fish, Davy Wood stuck to his tried and tested WSW lure for his 15 fish, Richard Parley found quickly retrieved fabs were doing the business and he had 15 fish on this method, Allan Paterson skillfully worked his dry flies for 14 fish, Albert Trail used a cormorants and buzzer combination for 14 fish and Graham Naylor had 10 fish on a dog nobbler.

So plenty rod bending action to be seen around the shores of Lochter and further good news is that from this Friday 29th April we will be operating our Summer hours of 8am to dusk or 10 pm.
Hopefully this will be in time for a increase in temperature so that some nice evening rise fishing can begin.
