Lochter Report - Flowering Success at Lochter
« on: 19/04/2022 at 13:56 »
Down Lochter way last week the elusive sun made a much welcome appearance and the Lochter surroundings looked resplendent with our profusion of daffodils nodding their heads to welcome a throng of happy anglers.

Indeed one customer was so inspired by seeing the yellow bounty of loveliness that he burst into verse as he entered the bothy, obviously a well remembered favourite from his youth.

It went “And now here comes the daffodils, the trumpets of spring, all tooting joy, which thrills and thrills, the while again they bring, their happiest note attuned with cheer, to tell that Spring is truly here,”

On the fishing front Spring has truly sprung and all week there was the continued sight of fish feeding greedily and breaking the surface of the water. Very attractive to look at but how do you match the hatch.

One man who had no such trouble was Dave Robb who fished all day with a team of diawl bachs, obviously finding the correct depth and he had 25 fish for his session.

Johnny Thackery found good success with either the apps bloodworm or damsels and he was rewarded with 22 fish for his efforts.

Albert Cowie from Fraserburgh stuck mostly to using black buzzers but he did also get a few on a yellow dancer for his 18 fish total.

Mike Jack changed between using traditional wets and dry’s for his 16 fish and also on this number was Bill Bain who used lures, which included the viva and Albert Trail on buzzer and fabs.

Other returns on 10 fish were Harry Watt on Ali McCoist lure and shimmer worm, Sandy Carroll on bloodworm, George Ross on mini lures, Peter Wilson on apps bloodworm, Chavdar Chavdarov on lures and Ernie Mackay on small nymphs.

Ian Sutherland had 9 on the WSW or shimmer worm, Dean McKinnon had 9 on assorted lures, Craig Whyte had 8 on apps bloodworm and dry’s and Jim Riddell had 7 on black lures.

We are currently open from 8.30am-5pm but for your diary you can note that for Friday 29th April we will resuming our summer hours of 8am-dusk or 10pm.

Just in time for some meaningful evening rises. Something to look forward to.

Tight Lines,

S.P 19/4/22.
