Down Lochter way its getting to the time of year where the ‘switherers’ (fair weather fishers) twitch at their curtains as they look out the window looking for divine weather intervention to keep their season going.
The more pragmatic of the fishing world know that this won’t happen and what is needed is a stoical indifference to the vagaries of the weather fortified in the knowledge that we are now coming into one of the best times of the year for casting a fly as the fish are feeding well and are in full finned fighting fettle in the now cold water they so much prefer.
Everything is therefore set for some terrific sport for those who venture out and find the feeding depths that the fish are in.
Certainly, after the storm of last week, there was an abundance of eager anglers out to test their skills and many proved they hadn’t lost their touch.
In high double figures was Paul Keir who fished the Muckle Troot loch on a variety of lures including the bunny leech. Steve Corsar also did well this time on smaller nymphs.
Alan Paterson used his own home tied apps bloodworm, particularly the olive ones, and it got him 15 fish to the net. Jim Brown also favoured the apps bloodworm, this time the red one and he landed 14 fish.
Kevin Thomson from Aberdeen fished an intermediate line with buzzers on the droppers and a beaded diawl bach on the point and it served him well to get 14 fish.
Fishing buddies Graeme Ellington and Alan Smith but had a splendid day out netting 14 fish and 10 fish respectively mostly on small lures.
Most returns were between 4 and 8 fish, which for the time of year is quite encouraging.
During the Festive Season the Fishery will be open 8.30am-dusk except for the 25th and 26th of December and 1st and 2nd of January.
So plenty time to plan some Festive Fishing Fun!
Tight lines,
