Down Lochter way last week we again had a full week when a large squadron of sand martins were on manoeuvres, diving and weaving over the two front lochs gratefully feeding on the emerging fly life. We also had our popular duck we call Freda; emerge proudly from the undergrowth with eight ducklings in close order behind her. Hopefully this is the first of many broods to emerge shortly.
On the fishing front it was an especially good week for buzzers, dries and anything small. The dry fly fishing was particularly good during the evenings so if you haven’t tried such a session yet then there is no better time to give it a go.
There was an exhaustive list of patrons who had over 20 fish for their sessions and a small selection is as follows:-
Matthew Reilly used a combination of wotsits, buzzers and squirmy worms, Charlie Will delicately used CDC’s and suspended buzzers on a floating line, Jim Whyte fished a selection of okay dokays particularly effective was one with a green head.
Johnny Thakkery had 2 sessions where he firstly used buzzers and fabs and then for the second diawl bachs and shipman’s and both were equally successful. Jim Adie used a wide selection of buzzers, Paul Keir mostly used crunchers, Albert Cowie solely used buzzers and Davy Wood from Aberdeen continued with his successful use of the WSW in many of its colours.
Noel Kelly had a day session using dry flies and landed 16 fish, as did Keith McHattie on dries and Nicky Wood using an olive WSW. Albert Trail had 12 plus 1 on apps bloodworm and buzzers, Kenny Reid had the same on a fab and okay dokays and John Fairley landed 10 on a mixture of buzzers.
So all in all some really good fishing and with similar weather forecast for the week ahead then it can be anticipated that the bending of rods will be a familiar sight around Lochter.
Why not pop past and see what you are missing!
Tight lines,
