Is there any fish here?
« on: 03/02/2008 at 17:11 »
Found this pond (don't know who owns it yet).
I dont know if there's any fish in it what would i look for as a sign and no i'm not standing there all day to see if any rise.

Looks quite over grown but it was on friday i took the pics so couldn't really see the bottom or anything.

What do you guys think?

The shallow reedy banks remind me of lakes in Finland where there are no wild trout but plenty of other species of fish. As Rob says, it look more like a water suited to coarse fish than trout. It might be difficult to fish with the fly in summer when the vegetation is up unless you are in a tube.

I'm still trying to find out who owns it to see if they know if there is any fish in it.

If there isn't would it take a lot to turn it into a fishing pond.

Would make a lovely coarse loch  :wink

I've not done any coarse fishing only game.

That's what I thought, a flooded quarry hole!

I'd like to keep the location under my hat until i can find out who owns it.
As far as i know it was dug out approx 70years ago for ornamental purposes and i believe people used to swim in it so i don't even know if its that deep.

Would like to know who owns it before i go poking around too much.

The 3 pics were taken from the same spot 1st to my right 2nd to my left and 3rd straight in front.

The 2nd to my left is showing an island.

Jay It looks familiar to me also.Dave I understand why u need to keep the location under your hat.
If it has a small feeder stream coming from a decent burn or river there would be a good chance there is a few wild brownies in there .If its landlocked maybe some perch witch I am lead to believe can be spread by herons etc.   Graham.

IF its the one I think it is, it was gifted to the local village and contains small brownies...but thats a big IF...the more I look at it the more it looks like the loch i am thinking of..but then I have second doubts as I have only seen it in the height of summer.

No idea where it is , certainly looks like a nice spot. Is there any  :z15  ? certainly I would say there would be Brownies if there was a feeder burn. If not , I'm not sure if those anecdotal stories of coarse fish being spread by ducks etc are true.

I'm trying to see if i can get an aerial view of whole place.

I think it would prob need some sort of cleaning out as theres lots of weeds around.
