Any place I can get the river temperature online? I was hoping it was on the SEPA site but alas, nope.

I have a thermometer on the way, but it would be interesting to see if the temperature was available electronically somewhere.

So after a couple of weeks of fruitlessly dredging the bottom and getting bored pretty quickly, things changed into rod and line testing for extreme conditions. Heavens be praised the fish have finally started looking up over the weekend. So all is right with the world again.



March browns and LDO’s have been coming off in short spurts from 11 through to 4 and each spurt has , if you have been in the right place brought a few fish to the top. The MBs seem to be favourite just now.

The windows of rising fish have been about 20-30mins so if you spot one be sure to be ready . My best so far was this devil who was hugging the near bank in 12” of water and his tail was breaking the surface each time he took a fly



Not huge numbers but decent size fish in good condition and all on the dry

I snuck out yesterday PM, saw an occasional MB, and not a single olive. Two one-off rises early afternoon. Covered both, pricked one, landed one (at 2lb, so a happy me). Saw a flattish, slick pocket surrounded by faster water; looked worth a cast, so ran a CDC emerger over it a few times and pulled up a few trout around the 1lb mark. Like Sandy said, trout are looking up more and more, and were for me willing to come up for a dry.

I caught a nice window at the weekend and had a proper Red letter couple of hours. Water temp 9 Degrees certainly helped.
One of the best fishing experiences i've ever had. March browns hatching and after 30mins of the fish rising and missing the naturals they suddenly decided they were food.

All on the Dry CDC spider, tweeked to be a march brown.



Realy pleased i got the new 24" Hoop net made during the winter 



Then the weather changed and ive been decorating until today, when i nipped out for a couple of hours and found some shelter.
Had to resort to the nymph but managed a couple of nice ones even though the water temperature is back to 5 degrees.



Dropped another big one too, but i fancy it was Kelt as it looked pretty silver in the water.

heres hoping the water temp creeps back up for next week.

Excellent stuff Sandy and good to see regular surface feeding fish now.
Good hatches now on Deveron but like the Don it took a while to get going.

Had a some fun in the sun this afternoon with Colin and some dinosaurs



Was test driving a new toy, i finished at the weekend and it is rather a lot of fun



Cracking hatch from about 1pm onwards brought quite a few fish to the surface to nail MB's and LDO's great fun with a 3wt.



Colin finally got off the mark and did it in style on the dry with a fine Seatrout kelt in great condition.



flurries of flies kept going until about 3, this guy looked like he had been in the wars, but put up a great scrap



All temps on the up, i reckon it could be a great weekend.

Interesting the damage on the last fish, i got one almost identical damage but on the other side.  Some marks on the less damaged flank so something's grabbed it.
Same place on the fish as yours; maybe an otter although these are my favourite guys so don't grudge them a few troots

This one had more marks the same on the other side. Looked like they healed a good time ago. They were basically white patches without colour scales.
I’ve had quite a few fish with damage like this already this season. I’ve been thinking perhaps cormorant escapees at a younger age as the clamp marks go straight up and down on either side, like it’s been hit from above with a serrated pair of scissors

I had ~3lb trout last week on Don with similar marks and locations, also think was cormorant as there was one flying around, as parkhill area

On fishing the Don last week I saw an Osprey take a fish from just downstream of me, then be chased and hounded by crows until it dropped the fish in the field opposite.  Quite a sight!

Didn't see any Osprey's today, but I did encounter some trout.  Never expected too much from the day, but I was pleasantly surprised.  I stuck to my plan of fishing only Clyde Style Wet flies cast upstream, and connected with 5 fish and landed 3, with a nice 2lb fish weighed in the net. 

Good suggested casts on page 33 of Robert C. Sharps book, 

I'm a very happy person!
