Down Lochter way the ‘season to be jolly’ is very much to the fore with the fishery bothy bedecked in its Festive glory, a beacon of seasonal hopefulness for a better 2021.
We are not so much thinking of hanging up our Christmas stocking but more excited that we will be doing an extra stocking of Rainbow Trout on Christmas Eve to ensure that during the holiday period there will be a lot of ‘ho-ho-hoing’ as rods bend and fish are landed.
This super extra stocking of fish is courtesy of local firm – EM Diagnostics who for many years have sponsored our competitions, which we had to curtail this year to safeguard against any COVID concerns.
However the company wanted to continue rewarding our local anglers and so this fine gesture will, I’m no doubt, be greatly appreciated.
To add an extra dollop of good news to good news, the Fishery will be open throughout the Festive season with the exception of Christmas Day and New Years Day.
Therefore on Boxing Day and beyond we will steel ourselves for an onslaught of eager anglers desperate for some well-deserved angling solace.
On Boxing Day we will be holding a free raffle where some lucky anglers will not only have a fine days fishing but also take home some Festive ‘bubbly’ prizes. It should be noted that no food will be available during the holiday period as the restaurant is closed.
On the fishing front, wind and rain was its main concern for those hardy enough to venture out.
Paul Ingram had a very good session netting 15 fish using either a humungous or blue damsel. Peter Young also had 15 fish this time on blobs or buzzers.
Steve Corsar fished a team of cormorants; obviously fishing the right depth, for 12 fish and Ryan Reid from Ellon used a buzzer and semtex combination for 9 fish. Ian Armstrong had 7 fish on buzzers and Neil Smith had 8 with a stalking bug.
Most anglers during the week had between 3-6 fish that kept their interest going as their sogginess deepened.
We very much look forward to seeing you down Lochter way over the Festive Season.
Tight lines,
S.P 17/12/20.
