Both builds looking fantastic. I've got a PayBay Quickline 9wt here that I've just started and a 9'4wt Dancraft FTL that I'm rebuilding minus the bottom section to give me a 7'6".

Sandy, mind if I ask what pen/ink you used to draw the shrimp on the blank?

Cheers

Dan it’s one of these

They cost me about a £1 from the range. I’d say one lasts 10 rods before it starts leaking then I chuck and get another.
Easy to use, clean and neat. Just leave it overnight to dry before epoxy and it works fine, no problems  :z16
I’ve black , gold and silver ones too just in case.

Sandy, looking good. Once all the travel restrictions are over and I head to Louisiana to the Lafayette office I aim to get a bend or two in the rod with some redfish.

Fast glass is much more robust than graphite for messing around in the back country. Thanks as always for an excellent build. I guess I will just have to content myself with a few practice casts in the garden for now.

Jim, that could be an FA  cup song.

You need to be a certain age to remember the Chelsea squad singing (badly) to those words.

Sandy,

The 888 arrived today. Took a couple of pics with the Sds bonefish reel and had a few casts on the grass. Looks ace and casts great, thanks again for an excellent build. Once lockdown is out of the way I hope to put a bend or two in the rod.

Nice reel  :z16

Looks to be an awesome outfit, can’t wait to see a few fish pics and see just what you chase with them. Redfish are 3rd on my bucket list yet to tick
Enjoy :z18

I got asked to build the Amber 580 for a customer.
He went for a classic Style build with red wraps, and agate with a nice spalted maple seat.

I now have my last remaining blank, a Livingston 7’ 3wt in Black Sglass in production. Have gone for a Celtic style etched reel seat. So will be quite different again. However it will be completed by next weekend, so I hope they let us go fishing soon. I’ve run out of things to make until my new range of blanks arrive at the end of June.

What does the 'Celtic' style reel seat look like Sandy?

It’s vaguely Celtic. It’s also one I got as a one off, which I can get again if I wanted.

Nice cork too in a simple tapered grip.

Here there the silk wetted to match the wood. You can see the etching better too

So a wee bit different, but rather smart I thought

Finished the Black Glass 7’3wt Livingston.
This is the perfect small stream rod. Roll casting, bows and arrows, tight quarters it’s perfect. When you do get space it can cast really well up to 50’ and you would never be doing that on a small burn. It makes every fish feel like a cracker. A great way to have a lot of fun away from everyone else.

Super clean Flor grade taper grip, etched downsliding seat with olive wood insert, apricot wraps over smoked snakes to match the wood and a lovely smooth coffee agate from Joe Arguello. Alignments dots too. I’ve got a tweed bag from Sandra and a glass fiber tube for it to live in.

If it’s of interest drop me a PM

the spiral wrap on the blank reminds me of my first proper pike rod from Dawia. I forget its name but im sure it was a 'magnesium' wrap ?!?!?

That is unground, unvarnished black S glass. As light and as strong as you can make it. The glass fiber cloth itself is black so no paint.  What you see is how it is when the tape is removed.
It has a lovely texture but is very difficult to photograph.
The black glass has an amazing look when the light hits it, but I haven’t worked out how to capture the effect in pictures yet, this come close.

For anyone that doesn't have a glass 7' #3 in their life, you just need one.
