HOOK- ak503bl size 12-16
THREAD-black uni thread 8/0
FLY MATERIAL-one cdc feather (colour to suit)

1)Tie in thread half way down hook couple of turns then snip excess thread,then wrap down just before bend of hook.

2)Take cdc feather tie in tips of feather as tail,then take thread half way up the hook.

3)Roll cdc feather will fore finger and thumb,Then wind up the hook with close wraps until you reach your thread.Then secure the feather with your thread.

4)Take the stalk of the feather and soften it by twisting and bending gently,as you want to keep the cdc entact,Then form a loop and tie off with thread and cut off waste.

5)Using the waste stalk, clip the cdc off and dub on to thread and build up thorax then finish off with a small black head.

CLARET CDC BUBBLE HOPPER

Hook - Kamasan B400

Thread - Claret 8/0

Body – Dubbed Claret (Possum / Kangaroo)

Rib - stretched pearl tinsel

Bubble Wing – Natural CDC

Thorax - Dubbed Claret (Possum / Kangaroo)

Legs – Knotted Pheasant Tail Fibres (tied in 3’s)


Step 1
Mount the hook in the vice, attach the thread, wind down to the bend catching in a piece of red Holographic Tinsel as a tail piece wind it round the bend about 3mm and back to your tying thread. Catch in the Pearl Tinsel rib & 2 sets of legs as you go back towards the eye of the hook, then return thread to the bend.

Step 2
Sparsely dub thread and Wind forward followed by the rib(in the opposite direction)
leaving enough room for a thorax & a head.

Step 3
Catch in the two CDC feathers, these will form the bubble.

Step 4
Add another generous pinch of dubbing to the thread, then wrap to form the thorax.

Step 5
Pull the two CDC fibres over to form the bubble, leave any straggly fibres as they are. You can alter the size of the bubble wing to suit using a needle.

Step 6
Prepare the Hackle by snipping the centre, wrap hackle around 2 or 3 times trim the waste hackle and cover the butts with tight turns to form a small head, whipfinish and varnish for the completed fly.

Great step by step always wanted to tie that pattern, use it quite a lot in summer.

Thread - Black
Body - Black floss & Fine pearl furled so as to leave a short shuck length of pearly behind body.
Thorax -Hares ear
'Wing Buds' - the ends of the body tinsel
Wing (optional) - CDC

The wing was added but could be omitted if you want a sinking fly.

I suppose this is a variation on a palomino midge pupa, though the body should (!) be a tad more robust.

Sorry for the delays guys

But yesterday we managed to get the Flies for the first 2 months marked.
Mike will post the results as soon as poss.

However we were missing quite a few entries for March, i dont know how many are in the post, but we have decided to let it run till the 15th of April due to more work commitments 

The first 2 months were very close with the marks and i would be a pity if people missed the last month, overall as you have seen from the photos the quality of the flies has been high and some of the ideas and usage of materials have been very innovative the kind of thing we hoped for.

Marking them based on,  use of materials, originality, tying skill, fishability and consistancy and marking each category out of 5 has thrown up a very close contest

So get them last entries in please

Can only echo Mike and and Sandys comments, some extraordinarily well tied flies and some very original thinking in the use of materials.
It's a close run thing overall and the standard has been high which is reflected in the very close marking from three different judges - so come on chaps
Get the last flies with CDC as the material of choice tied and sent in now before the revised deadline
