Gradually you can see the nights creeping in and feel the slight chill in the air first things in the morning along with the abundant dew that takes longer to leave the now slower growing grass.
It is all signs that we will soon be moving on to the autumn season which for the last couple of years has afforded us fine spells of dry weather which the trout have also appreciated by feasting on the abundance of insect life that comes their way as a result. There was certainly much evidence of fish feeding near the surface at Lochter last week.
Paul Ingram used CDC Emergers and small black dry’s to get 11 fish to the net and Kevin Spence on holiday from Lanarkshire enticed 9 fish to kilinkhammers and sedges. Buzzers did consistently well throughout the week and Peter Young fished the Muckle Toot on an all day ticket and was rewarded for this patience with 12 fish for his day. Also on buzzers were Jamie Stewart from Portlethen who used a mixture of Dennis the Menace, olive epoxy and red tag quill buzzers for his session and he brought 10 fish to the net one being a lovely 8lb fish which was returned to fight again.
Ernie MacKay also fished buzzers on a late afternoon – early evening session and he got 8 fish for his fine efforts.
Fishing buddies Neil Smith and Dave Simpson had an evening session during the week in mostly torrential rain but it did not put the fish off and they accounted for 13 and 8 fish respectively on Kate McLarens and Fabs.
Looking through the returns book – Bill Wood has one of his best sessions ever at Lochter and landed 20 fish on Blobs and Lures. J West and F West both had 8 fish each using WSW’s and montanas, Graham Reid had 7 fish on a Small Humungus and Mini Yellow Dancer and Dod Hay had 6 fish on Bibios.
