Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

The Aul Troot

We have now endured three consecutive months of below average temperatures and have seldom been without a breeze predominantly from the north or north east. These conditions are not conducive to good fishing and although catches are being recorded to the dry fly these catches seem to be intermittent with periods where surface activity was almost non existent. As can be seen from the catches recorded, most activity was sub surface with Buzzers, Diawl Bach and nymphs being most successful although lures are still yielding good returns.
The best recorded catches this week were; A Cowie, Fraserburgh, 36 fish, (black buzzer, blobs), A Murray, Gardenstown, 19 fish, (black/green fritz, black nomad), J Dewar, Fraserburgh, 15 fish, (damsel nymph), P Cowie, Fraserburgh, 14 fish, (diawl bach, buzzers), P Keir, Fyvie, 10 fish, (black buzzers), R Mackay, Inverness, 9 fish, (CDC), D Stewart, New Deer, 8 fish, (dry fly, emergers), J Dalziel, Peterhead, 7 fish, (dry fly, snatcher), S Watt, Turriff, 6 fish, (black buzzers), L Davidson, Macduff, 5 fish, (cormorant, fritz), L Naylor, Inverurie, 5 fish, (pink, white buzzers).
The forecast for the coming week suggests slight improvement in temperatures but still remaining unsettled.
Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery is open seven days from 8am til 9pm with a last start time of 7pm but with the evenings beginning to draw in closing times will be adjusted according to conditions.
