After six months of enduring a trickle of water through the fishery, Friday and Saturday saw sufficient rainfall to raise the water level and flush out the pond. Although this has resulted in some colour in the water, it will be interesting to see if any changes occur in the feeding habit of the stock. Although we are now into the second half of October, the surface activity has been well maintained and a surprising number of fish have succumbed to the dry fly presentations in varying forms from CDC to Klinkhammer and daddies. Buzzers and nymphs are still achieving success and the intermediate line with a variety of lures have been enjoying success.
The best recorded catches this week fell to; P Keir, Fyvie, 14 fish, (olive damsel), P Cowie, Fraserburgh, 11 fish, (green spider), M Guest, Shropshire, 11 fish, (CDC, Hopper, Klinkhammer), G Ellington, Ellon, 9 fish, (buzzers), R Duncan, Keith, 9 fish, (nymphs), J Dewar, Fraserburgh, 7 fish, (WSW), J Mann, Turriff, 6 fish, (dry), S Maclean, Fraserburgh, 6 fish, (WSW), J Mackay, Macduff, 6 fish, (WSW), C Maclean, Fraserburgh, 6 fish, (hopper).
The daytime temperatures for the coming week are forecast to be at or above average and it will be interesting to see how long such mixed catches can be maintained.
