Scott and Ben were using the Barrio DH18 line Andy, but I don't know what the others were using I'm afraid.

Best wishes

Cheers Andy,

Jimmy Jack pulled the plug on the Carron team, most of the guys who where competing under the Carron banner are now representing a new brand called "Gaelforce".  These are the only details I have really at this point, I would expect to hear more from them towards the end of this year.

Those video are very interesting. I have a question for Ben   :z14

I have noticed that when you distance cast, whether single handed down in the park or indeed in the video above, you stop the rod, and then lift the tip almost verticle.

All the other casters in the videos stop the rod and then point it down the natural flow of the line...ie, the butt, tip, and line are in one continous line. As the line falls on the water, the tip is lowered to maintain that "straight" line.

Certainly with distance beach and carp casting, all the instructors insist in making sure the rod remains in a straight line with the line leaving the tip to reduce drag and increase flight time and distance.

Is the rod lift a deliberate act to maybe give the line a higher tragectory or something, or just something that happens naturally.

Interested in the mechanics of it all....  :z16

Hi Rob,

Quite simply it is to assist turnover.  When casting a shooting head, it needs to ping the reel ideal to ensure turnover.  If the cast is not going to go as far as the amount of line off the reel, raising the tip increases the distance between reel & fly thus bumping the line tight and turning over the fly.

Cheers

Thank you Ben! Makes perfect sense. Will have to try that on the river tonight as I am off to try casting off my left shoulder and I can see plenty of instances where I will need to force turnover!

Hi Rob

If you're not looking for the ultimate distance, but for a straight fishingcast, do the opposite, stick the rodtip into the water just before the shot is ended.

Cool, so he can use a camera as well as tie a fly!  Hit the button at just the right time there and filled the frame too.
