Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

The Aul Troot

The fishing report for Delgatie is quickly becoming a weather report as the weather conditions are so critical in determining the outcome of fishing activities. So far this week the sun has been continuing to dominate by effectively heating the water and creating an algae bloom which has been difficult to clear due to lack of rainfall needed to flush out the water.

Despite these difficulties the fishery has enjoyed a busy week with most anglers managing to "grass" some fish although numbers were down on the previous week.

With regard to end tackle the variety seems endless with everything from heavy lures to snatchers proving successful although the best fishing method seems to be a quick retrieve from the bottom with the fish following up the water column.

Today's forecast (Sunday) indicates some reasonable rainfall and this will hopefully return conditions to a better fishing environment and see the return of surface activity and the start of a period of "dry fly" fishing.

Delgatie Castle is a Troutmaster water and is open seven days from 8:00am til 10:00pm with the final start time being 7:30pm. Visitors and novices are welcome and boats (where required), rods and tackle are available for hire at the fishery. Booking is not necessary.
