Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

The Aul Troot

The long awaited and forecast rain did not materialise and the water temperature has remained quite high which with the accompanying sunshine has led to an algae bloom on the water. The best results this week have been achieved on intermediate lines fished 4-5ft down with a variety of lures and nymphs as end tackle. Surface activity has been almost non-existent with only occasional rises and a reluctance to "take". Reasonable sport has still been enjoyed by the anglers with the best catches of the week falling to;

C Fraser, Turriff, 15 fish, (WSW, bloodworm, buzzers), A Murray, Gardenstown, 10 fish, (WSW, black/silver fritz), J Mann, Turriff, 10 fish, (cat's whisker), K Reid, Gardenstown, 7 fish, (various lures).

Last week we enjoyed a visit from the Stonehaven and District Angling Association and they landed 25 fish with J Freeland using bloodworm and buzzers, emerging as top catch with 7 fish.

Several larger fish have also been caught with C Fraser landing a 9lb and S Carle landing a 10 and three quarter lb specimen. The forecast for the coming week remains much the same with intermittent showers which does little to freshen the water and stir up the fish.

Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery is a Troutmaster water and is open seven days from 8:00am til 10:00pm. The last permitted starting time is 7:00pm. Visitors and learners are welcome and boats (where required), rods and tackle is available for hire at the fishery. Booking is not necessary.
