Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

The Aul Troot

The past week has seen the continuance of the unseasonably cold weather with a persistent breeze every day resulting in very little surface activity although at certain periods every day, buzzers fished high in the water column gave good results. Other anglers once again resorted to the lures although fishing on a floating line with a slow retrieve appeared to be the most attractive to the fish.
The forecast for the coming week does not give much encouragement for "dry fly" action although certain intervals might encourage a hatch with resulting dry fly activity.
The best catches this week were:
C Fraser, Turriff, 32 fish, (buzzers/blobs), A Murray, Gardenstown, 24 fish, (white nomad), G Littler, Newmachar, 13 fish, (buzzers/bloodworm), K Wilton, Liverpool, 10 fish, (buzzers/bloodworm), D McKay, Inverness, 10 fish, (dry/buzzers), R Donald, Macduff, 8 fish, (dry buzzers), L Davidson, Macduff, 8 fish, (black nomad), D Taylor, Aberdeen, 8 fish, (WSW).
Bigger specimens were still active with W Senior, Aberdeen, R Donald  Macduff, K Wilton, Liverpool and D Stewart, Aberdeen all landing fish in the 8-12lb range.
Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery is a Troutmaster water and is open 7 days from 8:00am til 8:00pm but later if weather conditions are suitable. Visitors and learners are welcome and boats (where required), rods and tackle is available for hire at the fishery. For up to date information phone Bob on 07980 999 006. :z15
