Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

The Aul Troot

Yet another week where we have had to endure low temperatures and a constant breeze both of which led to difficult conditions with the fish up and down through the water column and proving very elusive to contact. However the amount of surface activity is encouraging although the temptations of the dry fly have been difficult with Buzzers, Bloodworm and Diawl Bachs being the order of the day.
Today (Sunday) shows an encouraging rise in air temperature which will relate to water temperature over the next few days and possibly settle the feeding patterns of the stock. The best catches this week were recorded to;
C Fraser, Turriff, 58 fish over 3 visits, (Buzzers/Diawl Bach/Nymphs), C Wright, Aberdeen, 14 fish, (Bloodworm/Buzzers), N Thomson, Turriff, 14 fish, (Bloodworm/Buzzers), L Davidson, Macduff, 12 fish, (Black Fritz), C McPhee, Peterhead, 12 fish, (Diawl Bach/Lures), P Cowie, Fraserburgh, 8 fish, (Snatcher/Buzzers).
Also recorded were a good number of fish in the 8-12lb range with C Fraser of Turriff recording 2 at (8/10lb), L Davidson, Macduff 9.5lb and N Thomson, Turriff 8.5lb.
Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery is a Troutmaster water and is open 7 days from 8:00am til 8:00pm. Booking is not necessary and visitors and learners are welcome.
