Tube fly vice - recommendations?
« on: 10/03/2013 at 10:33 »
As it says guys, recommendations needed for a tube fly vice.

It's just possible that the attachment I used (up until twenty minutes ago) just flew across the kitchen table and ended up in the bin with the comment 'useless bastarding idea, what the f*ck did I buy that for :?' at the right sort of volume to disturb the cats sleep, and he was outside in the wood shed.

I'm not interested in any things to 'add' to my current vice, I want something fit for purpose.

Wee ginger bar steward is doing OK thanks Marc  :z12 he will never recover full use of his leg, but he gets around and that's good enough - he'd only get into even more trouble if he was fully 'repaired' again  ZX2

I have the Eumar one, hmmmm..not sure about it. I have had trouble with Slipstream tubes spinning even though the needle inside is as far in as it will go. I also stab myself a fair bit with smaller tubes...that needle is vicious!

I like the idea of the HMH one but not sure how it would cope with plastic tubes.

Never had a Slipstream tube spin on mine Rob  ???

Are you taking the liner out before you tie or doing some other crazy shit with the tube before you put it into the vice?

Besides performing an ancient Celtic ritual to bring me luck, I am just sliding the tube straight onto the needle.

Interestingly, it is only the Cu ones that have this issue, the ally ones are fine. I wonder if I have a duff batch of CU tubes? (Bought on ebay cheap). Probably answered my own question there!

Still does not stop me stabbing myself though!..lol

Rob,

Why are you using the tapered needles for lined Cu tubes?  Use the ones with the end and then wind the vice out to nip the tube against the end on the needle, you tube!!

Well, considering I bought the vice from you and the only attachment in the box was a long tapered needle, I guess I must have been a tube ;)

Are you telling me I have bought faulty goods?  :X2

Faulty no, maybe missing a pack of three additional needles but, as all the needles come sealed into a pack together I'd be very surprised that you got just one needle.  Drop in past the shop with the packaged vice and I'll check the contents and replace anything that isn't there that should be there.  There should be three tapered needles and three "stoppered" needles.

Sorry, been on the toilet for a few days! That vice I got was on display, I seem to recall you going through to get a bpx, then dismantaling the one on the shelf.

I am not even sure I still have the packaging.
