Our Lochter trout obviously knew that an arctic blast was going to hit us because they took full advantage of the milder weather of last week to stock up their full supply.
Current Troutmaster Champion Chris McAllister ventured onto the water a couple of times last week and in time he caught a double figure tally of a fish using that very effective ‘various’ fly.
Nymphs were working well as Alan Logan had 15, T Kinloch had 10 and John Reid from Aberdeen had 8 using them.
Damsels also appeared to be on the trout’s radar as D Mackay landed 12 using them, Albert Trail 8, Fraser Young 8 and Brian Ross had 7.
Ross Middleton had 6 using the combination of bloodworm and buzzer, Les Mess had 9 on the blob and zuddler, Willie McRobbie had 8 on a white fritz and blob, Carl Atkinson had 5 with the WSW and yellow dancer and Terry Daniels had 7 on a bloodworm and tadpole combination.
The colder weather will no doubt slow down the feeling rate of the trout but there will still be plenty of sport for those who adapt to these changing conditions.
A reminder that the Robbie Burns Pairs Competition is on Sunday 27th January and there are still some places available. Call the Lochter Fishery on 01651 872787 to put your name down!
