Anglers Undeterred by Weather.
Whether it was to escape the ordeal of Christmas shopping or just to get “oot the hoose” there were plenty of anglers out for a cast at Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum during the past week. The lower temperatures made things a bit cold on the hands but fortified with plenty of hot tea or coffee and the occasional dram from the fisherman`s lodge most made light of the conditions.
Alan Logan stuck with his favourite nymph patterns and was rewarded with fourteen nice fish with the best at 4lbs.Using a combination of nymphs and shrimps B Ross grassed fifteen while Len Davidson from Macduff also had fifteen on nomads.
Also getting into double figures was Ian McCafferty whose yellow dancers attracted thirteen of which twelve were released and P Young who used fritz flies to bring eleven to the net.
By and large lures fished on intermediate lines have been the method favoured by anglers as the fish have dropped lower in the water .Les Mess had eight on a white muddler, Ross Middleton eight on a blob and a black bunny leach, Scott Sim nine on bloodworm and an okay dokey while Eric Duncan stuck to blobs and had seven for hid day.
G Davidson came down from Nairn and was rewarded with a nice bag of seven on a mini cat and P Young also bagged seven mainly on a white fritz..
At the time of writing gentle snow is falling and making the area look very attractive. There is a thin layer of slush on the water but the forecast is for temperatures to lift which should clear things up quickly and give anglers plenty of scope to once again escape to the country.
