Sitting on the bank after fishing a very spiritual pool

Water is high and coloured but is clearing. Temperature of the water about 7 degrees C.

Haven't seen any fish. Salmon or trout. Some swallows/swifts combing the water so must be some insect life about.

Fished here and a bit downstream to give my left hand up Spey casting a dust off. Pleasant evening for it. Saw two Deer and a wee otter. Off home for a chinese take away and a beer.

Definitely worth a try tomorrow Liam.

Superb Rob, was that later after the water cleared a bit?  Mainwaring was at Castle Forbes this morning and left because of the colour.

Did you weigh it?

Took it about 2pm. Did not weigh it, something I don't normally do, but Iain took scale samples etc. Mainwaring should have hung about, I kind of wished i had taken my salmon gear, was starting to look very nice around 5pm.

Using that chart http://www.jrwfishing.com/fish_sizes.asp it comes out at 5.2 to 5.7 pounds..I think it was a bit lighter than that.

Really interesting colouration. Body like a coloured up salmon, but the classic shiny, bright cheeks of a brownie. But let's not talk about Rob....

Rob, any more info about your special fly? I mean... dry, nymph, wet, streamer? 

I streamered yesterday morning a few hours, caugth a tinny trout about the size of my hand... but current was quite strong and the water very dark...

Just wondering...

Conditions shockarooney here again today, I am not bothering trying to cast a fly in that ! Had too many days this season watching the fly land 10 feet left, right, or behind the tip of the fly line.  Doing some tying instead 2day.

Since I am on a roll with 'predictions' if anyone needs next week's Lotto numbers or the winner of the 2.15 at Ascot on Monday you know where to come !

I've been reading your don posts for a while now guys looks like things are hard in that neck of the woods and its been tough going this year. Over here in the west we have had the best start in living memory. Clyde, Annan and others have been fishing there socks off with hunners of big fish caught. It has been just brilliant, huge hatches that have just gone on and on and on. Funny how in a wee country like  Scotland one part of the country can be so good and another part so poor.  Just down to the weather I suppose but the don has a name for being very fickle at the best of times even when conditions are good.  I am off this week and I was going to spend three days on the Don at Monymusk as I do every year in May but seeing the forecast and reading these posts I'll not bother. It looks as bad as ever for as far as they can see ahead.    Anyone know if the deveron is fishing well?

Can anyone help me. I am fairly new to brown trout fishing and I have always thought that brown trout fishing was upstream dry fly or wet fly but everyone on here keeps mentioning streamers and wooly buggers. Can any one suggest any patters, colours and sizes. Any a dice would be greatly appriciated.

Mmmm not everyone UF !  I think there is a decent vid by Ollie Edwards on Streamer fishing, and yes there are a few guys on here that are big fans of the method who will be able to advise. It is not for me though....The Force is still strong ! 

The only thing I would add is that of hook size/gape - on ADAA waters you should not be using a hook with a gape of more than 1cm so please check all local and beat rules.

Hope you enjoy your streamer fishing, it certainly seems to work for the big boys if that is your thing !

Fished Tornasheen and Candacraig/Edinglassie today. Wow..what amazing water! A total of 10.5 miles to explore, just Sean and myself....and it rained, it hailed, is shone and boy did it blow. I had one pull on a swung March Brown and Sean had a few small fish on wets.

We did get a bit of a rise around 3pm, but the fish were small and holding in slack on the other side of a very fast run, into a head wind. So, they went unmolested!

Got the tickets from Skellatar house (i can't help think of a 1980's cartoon!) and was met by a nice couple who went through the beat maps with us, pointed out where to park and wished us well.

Some of the pools were amazing. Absolute classic, linked together with fast runs, stoney riffles, one minute open fields, the next in forest.

If we could have had better weather I am sure we woud ahve caught more.

I have a long weekend brownie fishing planned from this Thursday staying in The Grant Arms.... Weather is looking RUBBISH!
Any suggestions as to other options of fishing... I know there is some good Stillwater around... but aside from that can anyone advise on some of the more sheltered beats on the Grant Arms water? or even a crystal ball re the weather?

Thursday looks ok... but Friday and Saturday  :z19 Sunday we planned to have a bit of Rainbow Sport.

Any advise would be great.

Know how you feel Edin. I  come up in mid May every year and love it, but not this year after reading these posts and seeing the forecast. I'm going to stick in the west!   The weather has not been brilliant but a lot better than the east and the spring river fishing the very best in living memory.
