Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

The Aul Troot

It's great to be fishing again after our enforced weather lay off and may we begin by wishing all our angling friends a happy and prosperous 2011 with bountiful "tight lines". Sunday (02/01/11) saw our year begin with a bang and although anglers were "thin on the ground" the fish were co-operating and our top ten anglers for the day landed over 100 fish between them. We managed to fish until Friday when Jack Frost put an end to fishing but according to the forecast we should be in full flight by Tuesday as we are only suffering a thin layer of ice cover.

Some of our better catches this week were;

Chris Melling            New Pitsligo     20 fish
Steve Faithful           Mintlaw           18 fish
Lenny Davidson        Macduff           15 fish
L Stewart                Turriff              12 fish
W Hutcheson           Turriff              11 fish
A Alexander             Turriff             10 fish
T Novac                   Turriff               8 fish
B Cresswell              Macduff             7 fish
B Melling                  New Pitsligo       7 fish

Most of the catches fell to lures with the Bunny Leech and White Fritz being the favourites but a considerable number also fell to nymphs fished at a higher water level, whilst brothers S and C Whyte from Fraserburgh landed 9 fish on Buzzers. The bloodworm in various colours proved succesfull.

Out 2011 Troutmaster competition is now available.
