Winkled one out of the middle river today in brilliant sunshine.  Small grilse, didn't weigh it but if is was over 3lb I'd be very surprised.  It took a Crathie Fly tied on a size 18 Double Wilson fished on a full floater and 4X tippet.  Fairly quick water so fly was just under, awesome take, nose broke through as it took, almost like a trout taking a dun.
Crappy mobile photo I'm afraid, proper camera was flat.

Had a cracking day on the river today, went to a different stretch of water than my usual. Lots of rising fish and i had a blast with the dry fly.

The first of the day at just over a pound.
20 ft above this one and i hooked into a decent fish but lost it at the net.
Whilst wading back to bank i saw the back of a trout break the water so lined up to cast.

Cracking trout of just over 2lbs.

Releasing back to the water.

A few smaller ones also. All in all a great day. :z18

Well Done Geoff  :z16

Excellent stuff on the dry.

was it on ADAA waters? I walked over a very similar looking Devon Minnow a few weeks back.

Fished the lower river today. Could do with about 6inches more water but there were a few fish showing. Strangely enough Dad had a flattie out of one of the pools!

Oh and the water was a bit cloudy? Is that due to the warm weather and no rain for a wee while?

Cheers Matt

Got a loan of some geysers 5wt fly rod this week, so keen to give it a try I snuck out tonight to throw a surface fly or two about.

Had a pleasant time bending it 4 times with the 'typical' sized fish for the average bloke at this time of year.

Thanks enB (anag.)

Went for a wander at Inverurie this morning, the river is very low, running clear and there were some nice trout rising just before midday.

I am up on the Don in just over a weeks time. Do I take it that the infrequency of posts on this topic indicates catches are still disappointing?

So I presume no further updates implies fishing is still dire? I am fishing Thurs-Sat and in meantime doing a rain dance!

There are stories of fish here and there.  My father had one a few weeks back and saw one being taken last week.  They were both lower river.  I'll be joining you in the rain dance.

that sounds about right - looking at the ADAA catch reports  there's been a fish or two caught here and there across all the Don beats.  I've seen the odd fish, mostly coloured, showing.  Always worth a cast
