Superb!

Mike why chase mackerel when the trout are rising?

Great fish and photo's especially the top one, eye perfect, and is that a buzzer photo-bombing next to the trouts nib?

DHE has been on 99% of the time for me, I do like CDC Dun patterns but my perception has been that the trout have not being going daft for Duns so I've stuck to emergers.
I think the last fish has more small dark 'spots' than I recall ever seeing on a Don Brownie.

sounds like a champion day out.

Hmmm, the Silver Tourists didn't want to play, but I still had lots of fun trying

Now i know they say you find a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, or perhaps maybe even a leprechaun,  but THIS is not what i expected to find  :z5

Cracking report Sandy. This leprechaun would easily have fitted into Mike's new hammock?

Great shots Sandy! :z16 Great day out for sure :z12

Iain, Mike's hammock was full of trash I collected from the bank, so no room for this wee leprechaun.
Nice to meet some of you guys, and very nice to spend some time with friends.

Inspired by sandys success and a big wind forecast for tomorrow I took a half day and headed to the river. Was bloody windy, there were white horses being whipped up on the first pool as I set up. Still wasn't long before I seen an olive or 2 and soon after a rising fish. Over the next hour or so I worked my way up the beat, finding rising trout here and there. They were eager to take a dhe and like sandy found yesterday forceps were needed to unhook most.
Nothing worth getting the camera out for but still a very enjoyable hour or 2.
Hatch seemed to taper off by 3 and couldn't find any more risers. Had a look at a more sheltered beat for an hour but despite conditions being much better there was nothing to see.

I had a nice few hours this afternoon on the middle river.  Decided to fish a hares ear nymph under a dhe upstream(ish!). Missed a fish fairly quickly, so focused a bit more. The below fish took the nymph shortly after, 1.1kg on my pocket electronic scales (after subtracting net) ..2lb 6oz or thereabouts. Quite a wide back on him and a really good fight. Next cast, had another of similar size on but lost it preparing the net! Oops. Ten minutes later lost another after a short scrap! oh well, can't complain, a really good session for me! lifted my spirits after some hard sessions over the last few weeks.

Cracking trout, well done and on the hares lug. If I was restricted to one material to tie with it would always be hares lug.

Nice fish!  :z16 Great to see some silver. I feel like i've been neglecting the salmon rod lately, she'll be out soon enough i'm sure!

Was out between 2 and 3 today, windy and wild....
Found this guy frolicking in the waves...threw an orange spider a few feet upstream, landed quickly, took a quick snap and he was off again to play. 1lb or just under i guess. Can't say the wind made things particularly easy and didn't fancy walking to find shelter so that was it for me.

Was really looking forward to getting out on the river this afternoon but on the way the phone rang and the outcome was that  I could only manage an hour on the water  :mad

Weather-wise I think that hour may have been one of the best of the day though. There was a breeze now and again but it was warm & sunny and there were plenty of insects about. As soon as I sat down to watch the water a LBD flew down beside me......

There were quite a few Grannom on the water and these were keeping some of the parr busy.......

I decided to try a size 14 Iron Blue DHE......

Aware of the ticking clock I opted to cast at anything showing that I thought was bigger than the free rising parr.
A few between 1/4 - 1/2lb and two around this size........

A quick look at the watch and a reluctant walk back to the car while trout still showed - nothing big but that's ok.

A few hours later and with jobs finished I debated as to whether to go back out  :roll
Back out I went with the air cold and the wind offering to be very awkward.

I fished for an hour with few, & little fish at that, rising. I managed the odd 6-7" fish but it wasn't blowing my socks off so I went back to the car for the Tenkara outfit.

I spent the next 45 min's trying to avoid small fish but I did eventually catch 2 fish that were not big but decent on the wand.

Salmon fishing tomorrow, so don't care if it's cold or windy.  :X5

Some great catches recently so well done all, especially the lads with their first salmon! Awesome  :z16

Iain you are setting the standards with your posts. Very nicely done bud :z16 Silver fish was prob the best plan today, hope you got a few hours before the deluge. Speaking of deluge I'm assuming the river is gonna be a mess in the morning. Anyone got any interesting alternative fishing plans?

Went out with the trout rod for a few hours this afternoon on a new bit of water.  Usual spot was heaving yesterday :z6

Plenty of small things moving and a few in the pound plus class all of which ate a #14 DHE.

Best of the day was sighted in thin water at the edge of a drop off, although it didn't appear to be feeding it ate the DHE first cast at it.

4lb7oz, best of the season so far

Cheers

Be about 135 deg Iain, however that is all irrelevant.  The key to getting them to eat is to use a hi-vis orange line, I'm sure my green lines spook big fish :z4
