Saltwater stuff sandy?

Is it EP fibres for the shuck and 'wing'?  That's what I have used for my shucks.................shucks!

Really nice fly - just what I need to try and copy now. What's the hook?

A jammin' session last night at the vise with a Yello' May in mind.

Havin' fun with the snowshoe too

Cheers

it is EP for the underwing but I used polar fibre for the shuck
just a few strands.
The hook is an SLD but I bent it in the vise to get closer to the ones you are using
I love the shape of those tmc hooks but I've only got them in a large size.
Will have to try to get some sent out.

Got a few versions kicking about in my head :z16

Here's a Yellow May :z16.
The Yellow May duns on the Don are little darker than Vanilla, especially when they hatch out, the spinners are bright Smilie yellow but the duns are only pale :wink.
This one is tied on pale yellow thread with Camel hair, my favourite Yellow may colour.
It could do with a pale grey CdC or very light blue dun, but this was the best i could manage from my stock :z6.
Another Bent SLD hook :roll

I'm enjoying this, mind you the Blue Dun/pale grey CDC would be good for BWO's and dark olives too, in fact probably all the olives on the river have grey/blue dun wings when they hatch. Might have to try and get some.

Cheers

Another cracking pattern - colours look great.

I tied a few variations last night but just couldn't get the colours that I was happy with, camel eh? - really wanted to tie some Iron Blues but I've only Natural, Olive & Brown snowshoe and I can't even see any grey on the net.

If you need any hooks sent drop me a line and I'll see what's in stock out and about.

Sweet...... :z16

I must have some sort of problem, cos i can't see any of John's flies.
I can see the SBS, but the others like the Caddis in this post, i only get the text :z8.

Will have to look into this, as i would love to see some of johns others flies :z16

Iain, i like the snowshoe idea, i have a couple, one of which is Light Dun, this could be the grey you're looking for.

If not , Snowshoe is actually good at taking marker pen :wink

Had a play at an Iron Blue today, i used a grey Pantone marker on the snowshoe, worked pretty well :z16

Thats a real nice fly Sandy. I must get me some light blue dun and give it a go myself.  I've uploaded the caddis pupae in the virtual gallery if you wanna see it.  :grin
Cheers, John.

Another must tye pattern Sandy  :z16

So does the snowshoe in the light Dun appear 'whiteish'? as you've had to use a Pantone to get the colour.

Just wonder if getting pens is more worthwhile than Dun 'shoe.

Iain

I'd get some pens :z16 I find them very useful.
The dun snowshoe is a greenish grey that is perfect for a lot of dun wings
I did pick it though of the shelf, with that in mind :wink
The inky wings of the iron blue needed a wipe with a grey marker,
but only the iron blue has wings that dark :wink
having both options is great.
You don't need many pens either get some basic buggy colours
grey, golden olive, olive, yellow, red, tan and black would be good to start with.
You'll find a lot of cool tweeks become available  :z16

just wanted to try a few things on the 14723BL Grip hook (caddis Pupae n emerger) - I haven't forgotten about your 'hook up rate' doubt Sandy, although this one'll knock 'em dead when there's MB's popping up all around - you wait and see.  :z7

 :z16

By the way I voted for your emergers in last months SBS so lay off!   :wink
