What Have You Been Tying Today?
« on: 23/08/2024 at 22:43 »
Enjoyed a couple of hours playing with CDC and dubbing today  :)

I'm feeling a bit rusty at the vice, but a little practice will help and it's all about having fun!

What have you been tying?

With my interest ignited in the salmon I tied a few of these, not too difficult and proved successful on a recent trip

Revisiting an old favoutie, the Mallard and Claret used to be one of my go to flies when I first started fishing hill lochs. Haven't really used one for years.

Cheers Mike.

With the trout season over we must be entering the tying season (not that my tying really has a season), maybe we will see some more activity on this thread.

Today I experimented a little with the Holy Grail pattern using CDC  for the body and collar.

I'll need to make a more concerted effort to get out after grayling this year.

Tied up a little something the Trout next year:

A Black Francolin skin on Cookshill Flytying stand at the Irish Fly Fair caught my eye as it has some lovely looking feathers on it. Thought I would try one of the Covert feathers on a simple little spider.

Thanks Lucian.

Playing with the Rump feather from the Black Francolin Skin for the head hackle on this Peter Ross Bumble today. It was this feather that really caught my eye when I saw the skin.

Cheers gents. I have to admit to not being too keen on the tail colour on the bumble. Natural, Red or Hot Orange would have been a better choice.

I'd probably agree with that for a classic pattern Robert, but I think the pink tail gives this one a bit of character  :)
