Down Lochter way they say November is a ‘season of senses, the interlude between colour and dark with a delightful menace in the air’ when the days are’ bleak and bare and the years dwindling thread is worn nearly through’.
However don’t despair just yet, keep it for later, as we are still enjoying the mild weather and the delight is that lots of you who normally lay down your rods with the first frost have extended your fishing season and are hooking onto many of our fine fish.
Special mention of last week goes to one of our long standing and most dedicated fishers ;- Mary Barnett who celebrated her 92nd birthday by coming out for a cast and she was rewarded by landing a lovely 3 lb fish and lost several more. So well done, a fine effort.
Mike McDonald and son Liam had a great session using the black edge bright cat lure as Mike had over 20 fish and Liam had 11 to the net with an 11 lb and 8 lb amongst his haul.
Albert Trail kept faith with the legendary WSW lure and had 18 fish, Davy Ewen from Newmachar used either the Rob Roy or yellow dancer lure and it got him 17 fish, James West found the olive bunny leech to be very effective as it landed him 16 fish and also on this number was Paul Antipolo using the Montana, yellow dancer and mop.
The returns book shows that Colin Watt used the okay dokay with yellow cheeks in tandem with a Harray cormorant for 15 fish, Mike Skene fished the apps bloodworm for his 14 fish,Fred McCally continues his success with the mojito lure and blue flash damsel for 13 fish, Mike McLennan also fished the mojito for 12 fish, Neil Garden used a blue flash damsel for his 12 fish and Bill Wood used either the mop fly or WSW for his 11 fish.
Other flies that caught over 6 fish during the week were the beaded diawl bach, green cormorant, green apps bloodworm, Ali McCoist lure and the hothead damsel.
So lets hope the November weather continues to delight us for the weeks ahead.
