Down Lochter way last week there was a continual vista of fish rising on the feed to whet the appetite of arriving anglers ready to work out how to imitate their food supply.
Word obviously got round that conditions were ideal as we were inundated with expectant Anglers, some dusting down their dry fly boxes and ‘high & dry’ seemed to be the fishing orders for the week.
For most anglers the fishing didn’t disappoint and the return book recorded a plethora of double figure catches.
Allan Patterson was the model of consistency as he had 20 fish on each of his two sessions firstly on shimmer worms and then on dry flies.
Others on or over the 20 fish mark were Eric Dickie who used spiders or hawthorn flies, Johnny Thackory on fabs or dries, Ronnie Ewen who kept faith with his favourite diawl bach and buzzer combination, Bryan Ross using his own tied white dry fly, Russell Jenkins on drys as were Mike Skene and Stuart Howie.
Ian Falconer mixed it up between buzzer and blobs for 19 fish, Graham Gould had 18 on buzzers and dry’s, Alan Morgan fished emergers to good effect netting 17 fish, Cliff Smith used a team of buzzers for his 16 fish and Lesley Johnston had 18 fish on the bibio and buzzers.
Other names in the returns book were Simon Ruddiman with 15 on klimkhammers and shipmans buzzer, Sandy Robb with 15 on a gold olive, Colin Macdonald with 14 on small nymphs, Michael Macdonald with 14 on emergers, Richard Parley with 14 on fabs and dry’s, Peter Young on 13 using ‘all sorts’, Chris Gordon with 12 on the shimmer worm, George Ross (senior) with 11 on dry flies and Davie Wood with 10 on his ever reliable WSW lure.
Lots of other returns about the 6-10 fish mark so there was plenty of action for most anglers.
A reminder that we are now open from 8am-dusk so plenty opportunity to cast your flies upon the abundantly bubbling water. Don’t delay it wont last forever.
