Had a wander about Monymusk.

Fair bit of lumber down on the upper half of beat 2 blocking the 4x4 track to the upper boundary with beat 1. Can still get round on foot.

Thankfully most of the fallen  trees are in the middle of the wood and none along the river banks.

This bank repair work was clearly done before SEPA became a bunch of numptys.

Or perhaps it was back in the day when farmers used the river to get rid of boulders in the field.

Anyway as you can see it’s helping the river and improving the habitat for salmon and trout. Without the boulders it would of probably widened the river and made it shallow and hopeless.

So boulders or no boulders. I know what I prefer

Yes am the same.  I think boulders make the best repair in areas of large bank erosion. such as Monymusk beat 6/7 below the bridge. the first pool
has been completely wrecked since the huge flood a few years back.  Needs a couple large tipper loads.

It surely makes sense to repair a damaged bank with boulders and help prevent further damage?
