Down Lochter way it was another week where an inexhaustible amount of fish were clearly seen feasting on any scrumptious fly life either coming up from the bottom of the lochs or gracefully cascading on top of the water. It was very good for the soul to watch but sometimes another matter to get their attention with your own flies.
Keep changing or try new set ups seemed to be the way to go if your normal tactics were less than successful.
Derek Raeper had a day session and he changed from dry flies to a ‘washing line’ set up with a lime green buzzer & bronze diawl bach on the dropper and with a big hairy klinkhammer on the point. This change did the trick and he managed to land 16 fish for his late afternoon/early evening session.
Keith McHattie had an evening session where he solely fished a mixture of buzzers and then brought 15 fish to the net.
Albert Cowie from Fraserburgh during his day session tried lures and then went onto buzzers and this got him 15 fish.
Greg Wiseman hit it right when he came out for an evening session when the fish were ‘on the rise’ and using a small black klinkhammer he had 8 fish and on a small shipmans he got 5 fish including a nice plump 8lb specimen.
Looking through the Returns Sheets it could be seen that Jim Whyte had 12 fish on lures, Graeme Duthie used an apps bloodworm and buzzer combination for 10 fish and Johnny Thackerry used diawl bachs for his 10 fish.
Colin McDonald had a session where he only used traditional wet flies for a change and it got him 9 fish including a spectacularly lovely 18lb leviathan.
Simon Ruddiman was most content with his 9 fish using a ‘shipmans’ and Richard Parley used the apps bloodworm to good effect and he had 8 fish on it.
All in all, another fine week of fishing in fine surroundings.
