Lochter Report - Status Quo at Lochter
« on: 15/09/2020 at 14:20 »
Down Lochter way last week you would have done well to heed the advice from those legends of rock music, Status Quo whose most famous song insisted you to go “down, down, deeper and down”. I don’t think they had fishing in mind when they wrote it but that didn’t do them any harm, as it was obviously ‘catchy’ enough to give them their only no. 1 single, back in the heady days of 1975 when making it to no. 1 was actually an achievement and at that time a pint of beer in Aberdeen hovered around the 20 pence mark (but not for long).

Anyway, delving towards the depths seemed to be the way to go where pulls, plucks and rugs were almost guaranteed.

Brian Kennedy got straight down to business on a sinking line and home tied black fritz and he had a frenzy of action in his 4-hour session bringing 15 fish to the net.

Slightly less frenzied but no less successful was Paul Keir on a day session using yellow mops he accounted for 15 fish also.

Colin McDonald used his favourite cormorants to good effect getting 13 fish, his biggest rainbow being 9lb but he also landed a lovely 6lb brownie, which gave him a terrific battle. Also on cormorants was Stuart Reid and these flies seemed to attract the big fish as he had 12lb and 8lb specimens amongst his catch.

Indeed during the week it would have been unusual if you didn’t have a nice fish around the 6lb mark amongst your total.

William Perkin up from Motherwell with his fishing buddies was undeterred to come to Lochter and he did well with 10 fish on a washing line set up with diawl bachs.

Looking through the Return Sheets, Colin McFadyen had 10 on an Ali McCoist lure, Fred McAlley had 9 using either the bloodworm or blob, Fred Hay had 8 on cormorants and Steve McGowan had 7 on a yellow dancer and Kate McLaren fly.

The Scottish Youth Team Fundraiser took at the Muckle Troot on Sunday with the heat winner on 13 fish and 2 runners up on 10 fish. The next heat is this Sunday 20th September at Raemoir so here’s hoping there will be a good turn out for this worthwhile cause.

Tight lines,

S.P 15/9/20.
