Down Lochter way last week out bait pond resounded with the noise of youngsters enjoying, which for some of them, was their first foray at fishing and it was heartening to see that there is still the same level of excitement that accompanies the landing of a fish even in these modern times.
One youngster who has already made the transition to fly-fishing was 9-year-old Kayleigh Wood who came out with her dad Willie for a day session.
Using a small dry fly Kayleigh hooked and landed a lovely 3lb specimen all by herself with only some encouragement from dad. So well done Kayleigh!
On the fishing front its still a pretty mixed bag of tactics that are working depending on the conditions, which last week could range between stormy or benign.
Paul Keir changed between using the klinkhammer dry fly or the ubiquitous blob during his day session and it proved effective as it got him 18 fish to the net.
Jim Weir stuck to buzzers on a day when there was a nice ripple on the water and he landed 9 fish, including one around the 8lb mark.
Harry Hughes from Kemnay also used a team of buzzers on a long leader to get 8 fish. He used mostly black buzzers with either a lime or orange cheek.
Looking through the Returns sheets, the favourite lures being used were the yellow dancer, black WSW or olive nomad. On the dry fly front a small black beetle fly seemed to be the most tempting or else a sparsely dressed white moth in the evening.
There are still plenty reports about some good evening rises so why not pop down for a session before the nights draw in.
Tight lines,
