Things are gearing up at Lochter this weekend for the Spring Pairs Competition, which takes place on Sunday with a 9.30am start. This is our first competition of the season and there is £500 in prize money to be share out between the top 5 fishing pairs. It is always a good fun day out and there are still spaces available, so it’s an ideal opportunity for both beginners and hardened campaigners to test their skills together. Contact Stuart at the bothy on 01651 872787 if you want to enter as you could be one of the lucky prize winners.
After the competition there will be served a splendid lunch to go hand in hand with the stories of the ones that maybe got away!
On the fishing front last week, it was very much the case that there was a ‘buzz’ in the air. Mostly a deftly cast team of buzzers that is, which seemed to be at the top of the food wish list for the eagerly feeding fish and as a result there were some excellent sport to be had by this method.
Both Graham Duthie and Colin McDonald had over 20 fish each with some plump weighty fish tempted by these small morsels which in plain black or Dennis the Menace hue seemingly the most effective.
Other buzzer success stories were Jim Gilmore with 14 fish, Paul Ingram with 12 fish using both black and lime green buzzers and he had a frantic battle with a lovely 9lb specimen which shot across the Muckle Troot loch at a rapid rate of knots and took him down to his backing and luckily his backing line knot held and the fish was eventually brought to the net.
Other notable entries in the Return Book were R. Bell with 15 fish on the hares ear, Peter Young used a variety of lures and blobs to bring 13 fish to the net, Steve Prince used diawl bachs to get his 12 fish, Rod Palmers had 9 fish on hotheads and Brian Ross fished solely dry flies and he was rewarded with 7 fish.
Now that the clocks have gone forward it means we are now open for evening sessions till dusk, so its now a great opportunity for some to get fishing after work. In April we are doing a 5pm to dusk ticket for £8 to encourage you further.
Tight Lines.
