Down Lochter way last week it was very much the case that as the week progressed, the scene looking out from the Fishery bothy was one of an alpine Winter Wonderland.
It reminded me of the poem:-
“This morning the ground was sparkling with thousands of gritty jewels, in the low light they were gleaming amongst the frosty ice pools!”
We certainly had no shortage of ice but we still had areas of water open for the more intrepid angler. The Muckle Troot loch near the tail area was the favourite spot for Peter Young to gently pursue the art of buzzer fishing and his dogged determination paid off as he had 12 fish for his day.
Paul Ingram set aside 4 hours and fished yellow dancers and nomads on an intermediate line and he had 8 fish to the net, one being a nice 5lb specimen.
A man mysteriously only known as Marius in the returns book fished all the open stretches of water for his 6 hour session and he had 11 fish on blobs and dwial bachs in equal measure.
Jim Gilmour on a cold snowy day preserved and landed 6 fish on buzzers and nymphs. Davy Stewart from Aberdeen fished a beaded cat’s whisker on a sinking line and brought 6 fish to the net, one being in the 6lbs weight range.
Due to the ice still being crisp deep and even we have had to cancel the Rabbie Burns Competition which was due to take place this Sunday 10th February.
We will set a new date for sometime in March when hopefully Spring will have sprung and we can get back to mild weather piscatorial action.
