On the fishing front down Lochter way, we had our first real frost of the year with ice forming on most of the lochs before it rapidly melted and temperatures increased.
It certainly didn’t affect the fish too much with some sizable fish being caught and a just reward for the efforts of the fishermen involved.
The supremely enigmatic ‘various’ fly did well with Matthew Reilly bringing 14 fish to the net, one being a lovely 7 ½ lb fish. Others using this were James Thomson wish 8 fish and K Wilson with 6 fish; one being a hard fighting 6lb specimen.
Paul Ingram used buzzers and diawl bachs to good effect on a sink tip lure and had 9 fish for his day. Others on 9 fish were Pete Green from Huntly on the YBT and Brian Ross continued to successfully use dry flies with creditable success.
Both Bill Gibb and J Gilmour were in double figures using a black and red lure and buzzers and blobs respectfully and Raymond Innes from Newmachar used a team of small cormorants to land 8 fish with one being 8lb in weight.
All in all, for the time of year, the fishing has been consistently good so lets hope it continues over to the Festive Future that is looming.
Speaking of the Festive Period; the fishery will be open except for the 25th and 26th of December and the 1st and 2nd of January so, weather permitting, there will hopefully be plenty opportunity for festive fishing fun to be had at Lochter.
Tight Lines.
