Lochter Report - Hot and Cold at Lochter
« on: 13/02/2018 at 12:57 »
There is a lovely old poem, which starts with the lines “When man grows old his blood runs cold and the tip of his nose turns blue.” Down Lochter way last week there were plenty of such blue noses (especially running ones) evident as the cold weather retained its grip across the Northeast. However some welcome heat was generated from the piscatorial battles that ensued throughout the week with some lovely big over wintered fish being caught.

One such lucky person was Craig Wilson from Aberdeen, who had 9 fish for his day; one being a splendid 8lb fish caught using a team of cormorants.

Davy Reid from Newmachar had 8 fish for his lesson, one being a 6lb fish, which he caught on a descending stalking bug.

Graham Duthie landed a lovely plump 5lb trout on a day when he caught a further 13 fish on a mixture of lures.

Bill Gibb wrote in the Returns book that he had a good day’s ‘Trootin a boot’, which was confirmed with 13 fish for his return using bloodworms, buzzers and lures.

Looking through the Return book some other notable efforts were Pete Green from Huntly with 11 fish with a bloodworm, B Ward also on 11 fish, this time with a white fritz, Pete Young with 7 fish on buzzers, Paul Sharp with 7 fish also on buzzers, with Albert Troil and M Will on 6 fish both using a form of green bug.

Names are coming in thick and fast for the Spring Singles Competition to be held on Sunday 4th March. If you have always wanted to take part in the local competition scene then it’s the ideal starting point, as it’s a very friendly and open event.

Entry fee is £20, which includes a fine lunch, and there are plenty of prizes to be won on the day.
