I really enjoy playing with my camera outdoors in natural light

But anything that I try to do indoors and close up just leads to total frustration, I'm useless at it :z8

The quality of these feathers is amazing ..... and I can't capture it :X1

Your pic is pretty damn good Mike. I would say the only thing it doesn't show is the brilliant sheen. :z16

It was always going to be the problem, the feathers are so good its hard to show them off. Its a good picture though, gets the colours pretty well :z16

have you tried a black background (preferably material) and lighting them from both sides so you get the sheen without using the flash. You'll need a tripod to eliminate the camera movement and it might be worth experiment with the shutter speed to get the depth of field.

Might be a good excuse to pop over for a coffee, just a pity I'm working till sunday :cry

Spent a most enjoyable afternoon with our photography guru friend in Banff :z16

I learnt a lot and I feel all fired up ..... perhaps the best piece of advice was to forget the auto focus and practice doing things manually

Finally got round to playing this afternoon.

These Gallo de Leon are awesome. Here is a size 16 lowrider Spinner with the Pearla? (correct me Mr B) which was exceptional at the end of last season, tried a few views to try and get the sparkle these feathers give, which just look like the gossamer wings of the real insect, but only one really worked out. Hopefully i caught a wee bit of it and you get the idea.

Not just for Tails. :z16
