Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum got off to an excellent start in 2014 with plenty of anglers out. Some just getting oot o` the hoose, some working off the excesses of the festive season in the fresh air and others anxious to try out new equipment which Santa had kindly struggled down the chimney with. The weather was mixed bur generally kind and when one looks back on the same time last year,very kind. All the lochs have been open,no ice in evidence and plenty of feisty trout to be caught.
Scottish Team member Steve Corsar had a fine day catching and releasing eleven on cormorants. Buzzers worked for Ross Middleton who had a nice four pounder in his bag of nine while Bill Emslie had a five pounder among his bag of eight tempted by a mix of cormorants and buzzers.
Catches of eight were recorded by S Cowie, M Skene, and A Murdoch with bloodworms and tadpoles working well. Top scorer over the week was Doug Mair who had a terrific day, netting fifteen mainly on blobs. There were plenty of bags of five and six so by and large most anglers have got off to a flying start to 2014 and the staff at Lochter will do their best to see that this success is maintained by ensuring that the fishery is well stocked with quality trout and providing sound advice on how to catch them.
We are almost at the time when we celebrate the life and work of our national bard Robert Burns and to mark this occasion Lochter are holding the popular Robbie Burns Pairs event on Sunday 26th January at 9am. Lunch will be provided and as is traditional, the haggis will be addressed at lunchtime then consumed by hungry anglers along with neeps and tatties.
