Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

The Aul Troot

The past week produced weather which was conducive to good angling with only light breezes producing a nice ripple and with overcast periods blotting out the bright sunshine. Average air temperatures have also lessened with an accompanying drop in water temperature with the only missing factor being rainfall in that any rain has so far soaked into the ground with very little run off into the fishing water.
The change in weather conditions has seen an increase in insect activity and 90% of all fish caught being landed from buzzers or dry fly fishing with the sedge and daddy being the best of the latter.
Now that harvest has started the resulting disturbance of insect life should result in good dry fly conditions for the next week or two.
The best recorded catches this week fell to;
D Stewart, Aberdeen, 21 fish, (buzzers), M Troup, Methlick, 16 fish, (bibio and dry), J Potter, Falkirk, 15 fish, (various dry fly), J Ryce, Falkirk, 10 fish, (CDC and buzzers), B Burnett, Turriff, 10 fish, (dry and wet flies), B Cresswell, Macduff, 9 fish, (white muddler), M Paul, Grange, 7 fish, (buzzers), B Gray, Largue, 7 fish, (buzzers), L Davidson, Macduff, 7 fish, (various lures).
Conditions for the coming week look favourable and the fishery will be open seven days from 8:00am with closing times subject to adjustment for weather conditions although we should hopefully maintain a 9:00pm closing for the nest two weeks.
Visitors and novices are welcome with boats (where required), rods and tackle available for hire at the fishery. Booking is not necessary and further information can be obtained from Bob on 07980 999 006. :z15
