Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

The Aul Troot

The past week has seen an improvement in weather conditions with a general rise in air temperature although the water temperature is still low enough to discourage the insect hatches that would lead to greater surface activity. This month should however see more "dry fly" activity and we have accordingly extended our opening hours til 10pm for June in the hope that we can all enjoy the evening hatch.
One advantage of the colder spring conditions has been the absence of any weed growth although we will continue to monitor the condition. The best catches this week were:
C Fraser, Turriff, 23 fish, (bllodworm, dancer and diawl bach), A Murray, Gardenstown, 16 fish, (yellow dancer, white nomad), P Cowie, Fraserburgh, 15 fish, (various), J Dewar, Fraserburgh, 13 fish, (WSW),, A Gibson, Gardenstown, 12 fish, (various lures), N Thomson, Turriff, 12 fish, (bloodworm, buzzers), A Fraser, Forres, 9 fish, (various lures), G Ellington, Ellon, 8 fish, (nymphs, diawl bach), G Bell, Lanark, 8 fish, (nymphs).
A good number of bigger specimens were landed with 4 fish in the 10lb plus range.
The coming week looks settled and fishing should continue in fine form.
Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery is a Troutmaster water and is open seven days from 8:00am til 10:00pm and visitors and novices are all welcome. Boats (where required), rods and tackle is available for hire at the fishery.
