Haven’t the Foggiest at Lochter

For many mornings last week, Lochter was draped in a thick mist which was reluctant to shift until mid morning. But when it did there was bright settled conditions and unusually for Lochter, very little ripples to be seen on the water- more like a mill pond.
This left many anglers scratching their heads as they gazed over the water looking for inspiration as to the best tactics to employ.
Over the week however it seemed that the use of lures held sway and Robert Thomson from Aberdeen got off to a fine start in the early part of the week with 6 fish, one being 7lb, caught on a White Fritz the White Zonker.
The dynamic duo of Neil Smith and Dave Simpson from Aberdeen each had 7 fish using lures which included Blobs, Fritz and Minkie.
Towards mid-week Neil Riddell had 11 on a yellow dancer, John Parsons had 12 on a White and Green Fritz and Les Mess had 7 on a White Zonker.
The WSW lure proved to be both popular and effective with Ryan Woods netting 8 on an olive one, Dave Taylor had 5 on a variety of colours and Duncan Wright had 10 on a black one.
Other lures being used were the Rob Roy which got Bill Hay from Ellon 7 fish for his day, the orange fire tail allowed Jim Merson to net 5 fish and the lime hammerhead mini lure gave John Reid 6 fish for his day one being 8lb weight.
With the coming week serving up conversely different conditions of wind and showers then it should alter the feeding conditions of the fish and pose a fresh challenge for those hardy winter fishers who many have ‘mist’ our last week.
