I shall be spending a day on each of these towards the end of the month. As I have fished neither in the past are any of you familiar with them and are there any pools I should concentrate on in particular?

I don't know about Fetternear, but the river at Breda is quite narrow , albeit a long beat (ca 2m?).  Very little wading is needed.  The holding pools and runs are pretty obvious in such small water. I usually fish the lot from the top down. It's just the right size for a day's fishing, and it's a lovely beat with a single-hander or short double.  No hut. The car park area is in the middle of the beat, about 400yds from the river.  I wouldn't attempt taking a car down to the river unless it's a serious 4WD.  PM me if you'd like my angler's map.  Martin Webster, who you could well meet when you arrive, will probably keep you right anyway, (and will probably give you a map).

Had a mixed visit.
Day 1 at Fetternear was a blank despite seeing quite a few fish including a very fresh looking double figure effort. Leaves were a real nuisance as there was quite a gale blowing. Very nice beat which is quite long and all left bank. Walking along some of the bankside is precarious as the long grass had fallen over and was hiding quite a few holes! There is a very good track that runs parallel. Managed to rip my waders in style finding out the hard way. Don water in October is refreshing to say the least!
Day 2 at Breda was good. Strong downstream wind and snow squalls all day but sunshine in between. Nice track runs along right bank and most pools have been strimmed nicely. Saw very few fish but managed to lose 2 very quickly and finally hold on to one of about 6lbs from a run towards the end of the beat. Park shrimp on a floater with 5ft fast sink tip did the trick
Day 3 was Bandley and this was a triumph. Overnight it had snowed and the roads were treacherous and it was sleeting heavily as we drove there. Setting up in those conditions is not good for the fram of mind! Nevertheless by the time I started the fould weather had blown through and it was a very nice day. Fished all morning on the pools I have done well in the past and nothing. I met my fishing buddy and he had 2 on and allys. Just themn I saw my first fish and decided to concentrate it. Lo and behold over next hour I had landed 3 fish and lost 1. Small cascades and park shrimps o na sink tip did the work. One was quite fresh and one a real kipper of about 20lbs

  Looks like you had some good sport, thats 1st fish does look very fresh. shame about the weather.
