Thumbs Up as Craik and Fraser Win Lochter League.
Colin Craik fought through the pain barrier to snatch theŁ1000 first prize in the Lochter Fishery Summer League final on Saturday. Colin arrived for the final of the pairs event along with fishing partner Kevin Fraser suffering with a suspected broken thumb .This made casting not only difficult but also very painful. However quacked up with a mixture of painkillers and the occasional wee dram he decided to give it a go and the team were rewarded when they overtook leaders going into the final Chris McAllister and Mike Cordiner to push them down into second place with Kevin Neri and John Brown close up in third. The runners –up duo got off to a difficult start also when Mike flew over the Oldmeldrum venue at ten thousand feet on a delayed flight from London when he should have been on the waterside preparing to cast off. His partner Chris was at about the same height mentally wondering where the dickens he was. Eventually the team came down to earth when Mike was rushed to the fishery in a taxi only 45 minutes after the start.
Once again the Summer League was generously sponsored by EM Diagnostics and Managing Director Bill Thompson was on hand to present the prizes to the three winning pairs. The revised formula of this years competition enabled less experienced anglers to participate with every chance of getting among the prizes and there was very little in it going into the final. The fishery would like to extend its thanks not only to EM Diagnostics but also to all the anglers who participated in the very successful and enjoyable Summer League. It has been decided not to have a Winter League but instead to hold a series of special competitions and events over the Autumn and Winter starting with the Guy Fawkes Gunpowder Plot Singles on Sunday 4th November.
During the week there was some excellent fishing mainly well down in the water. Mike Frost kept three and released eleven using a black wsw, Ron Ewen released sixteen on cormorants ,N Kelly had fourteen on blobs with his best a six pounder, David Pottinger down from Shetland released eleven all caught on black nymphs and W Marshall used little devils and montanas to tempt a dozen which he returned safely to the depths.
The prospect remain good and the forecast is quite kind, anglers will however have to go down a bit to contact the fish as the temperatures continue to drop.
