Apart from a torrential downpour on Monday night/Tuesday morning which resulted in coloured water on Tuesday, the weather has been quite settled with a cool westerly breeze blowing a nice ripple in the water. But, being anglers, we have to have something to complain about, and to mitigate the catches that have been recorded, and this week has seen longer periods of bright sunshine which has driven the fish deeper in the water. The main problem now is that with harvest started the abundance of corn lice and other insect life has led to a surplus of natural feed in the water and has taken the edge off the fish appetite for food. Anglers who presented an enticing food source were rewarded whilst others struggled to contact fish in any quantity.
The best recorded catches this week fell to:
P Scott, Macduff, 18 fish, (Red/Black Buzzer), P Cowie, Fraserburgh, 16 fish, (Sedgehog), A Gibson, Gardenstown, 11 fish, (Various Nymphs), J Ewing, Aberdeen, 9 fish, (Blobs), J Duncan, Alva, 7 fish, (Okay Dokey), K Wedderburn, Peterhead, 7 fish, (Various Lures).
The dry fly has enjoyed periods of intermittant activity with the Daddy, Klinkhammer and CDC proving most successful.
