Fine Start to the New Year
What a difference a year makes. Last year and indeed the year before all the lochs at Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum were frozen solid and no fishing was possible right through until almost into March. This year with the exception of a couple of days the water has been ice free and fishing has proceeded apace and I have to add that Santa has been very good to quite a number of anglers who are now sporting some very flashy new outfits.Whether the new kit will improve the catch rate remains to be seen !
During the past week the fishing has been remarkably good considering the indifferent weather and a wide range of flies have been successful.Top scorer was Paul Sharp with ten on buzzers and the same flies worked for N Smith who netted seven,R Little who had a lovely fish of 8lbs + in his bag of eight and Scott Sim from Ellon who scored five.
Other happy fishers included R Lewis who cormorants and critterworms to attract nine to his net R Farquhar who also had nine and J McKerron whose cats attracted six
At the time of writing the weather forecast is for a mild week which should encourage some fly life and keep the fish active.
Once again Lochter will be holding the Rabbie Burns Pairs on Sunday 29th January. Competitors will be able to enjoy a fine lunch of Haggis neeps and tatties as part of their day.
